There is no way to prevent unwanted e-Mail from being sent to you without stopping all e-Mails. The technology department has initated a new service that can help to identify and/or remove some undesirable e-Mails.
VIRUSES: The first part of the system scans the e-Mail for viruses and deletes the known viruses. This prevents many of the known viruses from ever reaching our e-Mail server. In the event a virus makes it through that system, the anti-virus client that is on your computer will destroy the virus if you attempt to open it. It is your responsibility to NOT OPEN E-MAIL FROM UNKNOWN SOURCES. You should also remember to have your computers turned on daily so that the newest virus definitions can be placed on them. If the computer is turned off for a proplonged period of time, the virus definitions will be added the next time the machine is on. This will cause very-very-very long connect times.
SPAM: The second part of the system checks for the potential of an e-Mail to be SPAM. The system has the ability to delete the spam, place it in a quarantine or mark the mail as SPAM. We have chosen for now to Mark the mail only. We will change the policy from Mark to Delete when we feel comfortable that the system is not getting too much mail that is not SPAM. Until we start handling the spam more agressively, you can do a couple of things that will help.
